Low Virtual Memory - Tip #2

let's talk about what it means when you keep getting a "your system is running low on virtual memory" message. First let us define virtual memory. Virtual memory is a file on the hard drive set aside for windows to use as temporary storage for programs that are running. Generally the virtual memory should only be used for items that will not be accessed much. It is much slower than the actual memory. When you get the error saying virtual memory is low there are a few things that an cause this. The first is that you are running programs that need more RAM than you have installed. This is easily fixed by adding enough RAM for the programs you want to run. The second cause of virtual memory low errors is malicious or unwanted programs running in the background, such as virus, spyware, toolbars or update utilities. These can be hard to track down. You may have unknowingly installed some extra software with an update to another program. If you have not recently installed any new programs or updates you probably have some sort of virus or spyware. You should try to get rid of the virus with your anti-virus program if you have one. If you can't seem to get rid of the problem you should bring your computer in to a reputable place to be cleaned of the infection. A virus running on your computer could be logging passwords or sending out infected e-mails to your friends and family among other things. Hopefully that helps explain Virtual memory errors. Virus infection from E-Mail - Tip #1

A majority of the computers that come into our repair shop for work have some sort of spyware or virus infection on them. Some of these infections come from E-Mails. You should watch out for E-Mails that don't seem quite right. Most people think that malicious software gets in from the spam e-mails that everyone gets from unknown or random senders, but most infected E-Mails will appear to be coming from a friend. Usually that person or someone in their address book will become infected and that Virus will send itself out to everyone in the contacts.  You should be careful with any E-Mail that has a file attachment or a link to a website or file. That file or website could easily infect your system even if you have an updated anti-virus. Make sure that any files your friends send actually are coming from them, or better yet, Don't open any files or links in E-Mails. Hope this tip helps someone out there.
